We're glad that you're considering coming to church at Hopevale! We plan everything we do with you -- the visitor -- in mind. When you arrive you'll see that we're just like you, people learning more what it means to follow God more and more. So, know that you are welcome to come, just as you are, to join with us. We promise that when you visit we won't put you on the spot, ask you to wear a large "I'm new" nametag, or stand up in the service and introduce yourself. We'll let you decide how much you want to engage and ask questions and how much you just want to sit back and watch. In order to take away some of the mystery of what happens on Sunday mornings around here before you arrive, we've jotted down a few tips on visiting Hopevale for the first time.
What should I do when I visit?
When you come your first stop should be at our Welcome Center in the middle of our main lobby. Our welcome staff will help answer any general questions you have. We also have a welcome bag with some helpful information in it just for you. For more specific information, stop by one of our four ministry kiosks (children, students, adults, and outreach). Also, feel free to grab a cup of coffee in our lobby's coffee area (it's free!) and a tasty donut (50 cent donation) sit down and make yourself at home. Many visitors comment that the 'buzz' of the lobby area on a Sunday morning is positive and life giving. We invite you to join right in; you may even see someone you know or meet someone new!
What kind of church is Hopevale?
Hopevale is a “Christian,” “Protestant,” “Evangelical,” and “Non-Denominational” church. In terms of essentials, we believe that the Bible is the only Word of God, Jesus Christ is the only Son of God and Savior, and that God’s salvation and forgiveness come by His grace alone through faith in Christ alone. For more, visit our what we believe page and please plan to attend our next Get to Know Hopevale class where we'll discuss our church beliefs in more detail.
What are the services like?
We realize God is drawing people to Hopevale from different kinds of backgrounds, so we want you to know about our Sunday services. We believe in reverent, expressive worship of our awesome God. Since we're a multi-generational church, we sing contemporary songs of praise with a band as well as familiar hymns. Our music is the same in both services. There will also be an offering taken so that our regular attenders can worship by giving back to God. As a visitor, please don't feel pressure to give and accept the service as our gift to you. The messages are both biblical and relevant. Hopevale is committed to the truth and life-changing power of God's Word, the Bible. Our pastors connect God's unchanging truths with our lives today; we talk about what's worth living for and what isn't. Each service lasts just about one hour.
What do I do with my children when I come to church?
Hopevale offers a wonderful, safe environment for your children on Sunday mornings that is created just for them. We call our programming for children birth through pre-Kindergarten Tot Town. Programming for Kindergarten through 5th grade is called Kidcity. Visit the Children's Ministries Information Desk (the CHID) on the opposite side of the coffee area glass wall. Volunteers there will help you register your children and find just the right spot for them to learn and have fun while you are in the service. Of course, if you are more comfortable keeping your kids with you they are welcome to sit with you in the auditorium.
What should I wear to church?
Most men and women wear casual attire, others get dressed up for Sundays. We encourage people to come in whatever they are most comfortable wearing. Get ready to see jeans. Get ready to see suits and ties. We love that Hopevale is a comfortable place for many people to worship no matter what our personal style choices.
I have a question or comment I’d like to share with the staff. What should I do?
We have a general communication card you can use to ask questions and share prayer requests. These cards can be found in the Welcome Center right in the lobby. After you complete it give it to a Welcome Center volunteer or put it in the offering plate and we promise we'll get it and respond to you. You can also call the church office during the week (989-793-3122). You can send a general email to the church or specifically email staff members; their addresses are on our staff page.
Where does Hopevale have church services?
Our Sunday morning worship and ministries happen on our North Campus facility at 4873 N. Center Road (right at the corner of Center and Tittabawassee Roads in Saginaw Township). Our Sunday service times are 9:00, 10:45 and 12:30. The services are held in our auditorium which is located right off our large lobby area; it holds over 1,000 people and is usually pretty full.
Our South Campus building at 5360 Shattuck Road houses our weekday offices (Tuesday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.). We also run our Student Ministries programming held on Sunday evenings (6th grade-college) here.
