Just another Sunday
I had the privilege of serving at Hopevale in Bay City this past Sunday. My day started early, and before noon I already had my 10,000 steps in for the day. Here's a rundown of my morning in Bay City:
.Arrived early to meet Joe Wieland, Jerry Eaton, and the rest of the setup crew who were already unloading the trailers and setting up for the day. What a great team...
.Pushed some carts. Stacked some chairs. Plugged some stuff in. Lifted a few heavy things. Basically I helped out as the team set up environments so all who came to Hopevale that morning would encounter Jesus in fresh ways. What a great cause...
.Rallied with all the Bay City servant teams around 10am, to remind ourselves why Hopevale is in Bay City (to invite our friends and neighbors to Jesus), and to pray together before the service started. The servant teams in Bay City are an awesome "kingdom foxhole." Community wrapped around a cause.
.Experienced the service. Watched as folks engaged in worship, observed communion, and leaned in to the message on LIFE with Jesus.
.Helped tear it all down, and load it all in the trailers to be ready for next Sunday.
Just another Sunday? Maybe on the surface. But when I pushed past the hard work of the servant teams, and the challenges of "church in a school," I saw a group of people who love Jesus, love each other, and want to invite others into the journey that is Hopevale in Bay City.
I saw a lot of LIFE happening. With a capital L. When it is working right, there is nothing like the local church. It was definitely not just another Sunday.
