"Dad, do we have to ride the bus today?"
What I thought: this is going to cut into my morning time with Jesus.
What I said: "No worries, I can drive you."
After dropping the kids at school, I was pulling up to a stoplight and the guy in the next lane decided he didn't want to be behind a school bus. So he swerved into my lane and I had to slam on the brakes, hard enough that the box of Bibles sitting on my back seat slid off and hit the floor. The guy behind me then had to hit his brakes, and he decided to share a pristine hand gesture with me.
What I thought: clearly that gesture was meant for the guy in front of me who actually caused the near-collision. I should pass it along to him.
What I did: I looked in the mirror and saw my new 168 decal (from this past Sunday) staring back at me from the rear windshield. Exhale, let it go.
I arrived at the Hopevale offices, and my keyfob decided to not work. So I had to set down that box of Bibles and walk around to the other entrance.
What I thought: one more inconvenience.
What I did: I finally got to my desk, put on the Hopevale worship playlist, and sat down to start my time with Jesus...
Peace be still, you are here so it is well
Even when my eyes can't see I will trust the voice that speaks
What shall I return to the Lord for all his goodness to me? Psalm 116:12
Maybe this morning I'll give him my morning commute. I love my kids; thank you Jesus for keeping me from a car accident; it's my privilege to serve at Hopevale.
