Treasure hidden in a field
Climb the tower at the Monument to the Explorers in Lisbon and you’ll look down on an amazing scene. The tiles that paved your path to the monument form a giant mosaic. You walk on the outer waves and navigate between the compass points until you reach the center, a map of the world. The photo shows the view as you first glance from the top of the monument.
Did you notice the person?
God always notices the person. While we look at the beauty of the surroundings, God sees the full beauty of each one of us. He sees a treasure. Jesus once said, “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” (Matt 13:44 NASB)
You are a treasure, even if obscured by the magnitude of your surroundings. No matter how beautiful or important the people around you, no matter how crowded your life, no matter how overwhelmed you feel by circumstance, God sees you; He sees you as a treasure. You are a treasure so valuable that he hid you from his enemy in a large field, the world. Because he loved you so much, he redeemed the whole world to buy the field in which you were hidden. (Isn’t that what his parable is telling us)?
So, the next time that you look down and see the waves, when you see others who seem more important, when you see the compass seemingly pointing in every direction, remember that you are not lost. Look up to God; He sees and treasures you.
