Fear of Failure

May 11, 2014 Speaker: Dan Davis Series: Face Your Fears

Topic: Sunday Message Verse: Romans 8:1–8:2

The Fear of Failure

Going through life “playing not to lose,” rather than “playing to win.” It’s us making safe, predictable, non-risky decisions that keep us in our comfort zone

What's at Stake

The fear of failure can keep us from following God and growing in our faith. We need to get to the place where our desire for obedience is greater than our fear of failure… where we choose the right thing over the safe thing.

The Fear

“What if I don’t succeed?”

The Lie

“I am what I achieve because my acceptance is based on my achievements.”

Effects from Fear of Failure

We don’t step out in faith; We don’t try our hardest; We don’t make commitments; Comparison becomes competition; We become more self-centered

The Truth

In Christ, I am already accepted and my true worth is found in the unconditional love of Jesus.

Romans 8:1-2 NIV

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

John 8:36 NIV

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
