Topic: Sunday Message Verse: Proverbs 29:25

The Fear of Rejection

Worrying about what other people think of us and feeling insecure about whether or not they like us.

Rejection Coping Strategies

The ways we try to deal with the fear of rejection include: (1) Overachieve; (2) People-please; (3) Blend in; (4) Live angry.

Proverbs 29:25 NIV

Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the lord is kept safe.

Proverbs 29:25 MSG

The fear of human opinion disables; trusting in God protects you from that.

Facing Rejection #1

With Jesus there is a perfect love.

1 John 4:18 NIV

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

1 John 4:10 NIV

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Facing Rejection #2

With God there is a greater fear. “The fear of God” means to worship, respect, revere, be in awe of God. It’s recognizing His greatness, might, and holiness, and that God has no equals.

Matthew 10:28 NIV

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Living Out Your Acceptance #1

Know that rejection will still sting you but it no longer has to devastate you

Living Out Your Acceptance #2

Be comfortable and confident in who God made you to be, not who you wish you were

Living Out Your Acceptance #3

Help make your church a community of acceptance

Romans 15:7 NIV

Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.
