Face Your Fears Q&A
This week's You Version notes list the fear questions people from the church have asked. To find out our responses, check out the message online at hopevale.org
“All my life I have been told if you smoke, drink, swear that you are not a Christian… I am a smoker and I really have a need to know that because I smoke that I am not going to go to hell and that my faith in God is what I need to go to heaven… This is my greatest fear.”
“How do you deal with the fear of feeling like you are never going to "make it"? I've been at the same job for years, being passed over for promotions and I feel stuck. I fear that no matter what I do I will not move forward. I keep thinking there is something more for me and my family, but I'm so afraid I will never figure it out or get there.”
“This series has talked about common fears, but what should you do if your fears are overwhelming, like panic attacks and genuine disorders? Also how should a Christian think about the place of medication in treating those fears?”
“Last week you talked about dealing with the fear of conflict, but is there a difference between how we should go about addressing conflict as Christians within the church versus dealing with people outside the church, like work situations?”
“I have accepted Jesus as my Savior, but I fear this verse - Matthew 7:21: ‘Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.’”
“I have a fear of never standing up for my faith as a Christian, too much people-pleasing, being too accommodating and feeling like a doormat.”
Psalm 56:3-4 NIV
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
Psalm 23:4 ESV
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
