What is a Proverb?

Proverb - (usually happens) it can mean any profound pronouncement, including: axioms, observations, sermons, even wisecracks, and revelations from God… • Proverbs are statements that paint a small word picture of what life is like or should be like. • A proverb is a snapshot of life…a proverb does not always represent what life always looks like. • A good proverb, like a good snapshot, captures what is typical. • There are exceptions to the proverbs. They are not always true, but they are usually true. • They represent life accurately, but not completely. • Some proverbs are promises, when the proverb expresses a truth that is always consistent

What is a Promise?

Promise - (always happens) Some promises are conditional, others are unconditional. promises are mentioned in other place in the bible, are consistent and always the same throughout scripture.

How Should We Interpret and Apply This Verse?

1. We should train our kids. | 2. We should recognize and remember that our kids make choices to listen and obey or reject our training. | 3.We should entrust them to God and pray they respond to Him and to wisdom. | 4. We should all take a nap because parenting is hard!
