October 8, 2017 Speaker: Dan Davis Series: Vision

Topic: Sunday Message Verse: 2 Corinthians 9:1–9:13

Four messages in our fall series, "Vision," where we'll dive into the vision of our church and also our future.

God entrust to us these resources for His purposes:

1. Our time
2. Our talent (natural ability and spiritual gifts)
3. Our treasures (money, wealth, and stuff)

Whether you're going to Bay City or staying in Saginaw, we need your time and we need your talent.... we also need your treasure.

2 Corinthians 9:1-13 NLT

1 I really don’t need to write to you about this ministry of giving for the believers in Jerusalem. 2 For I know how eager you are to help, and I have been boasting to the churches in Macedonia that you in Greece were ready to send an offering a year ago. In fact, it was your enthusiasm that stirred up many of the Macedonian believers to begin giving. 3 But I am sending these brothers to be sure you really are ready, as I have been telling them, and that your money is all collected. I don’t want to be wrong in my boasting about you. 4 We would be embarrassed—not to mention your own embarrassment—if some Macedonian believers came with me and found that you weren’t ready after all I had told them! 5 So I thought I should send these brothers ahead of me to make sure the gift you promised is ready. But I want it to be a willing gift, not one given grudgingly. 6 Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. 7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” 8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. 9 As the Scriptures say, “They share freely and give generously to the poor.Their good deeds will be remembered forever.” 10 For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. 11 Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God. 12 So two good things will result from this ministry of giving—the needs of the believers in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God. 13 As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God. For your generosity to them and to all believers will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ.

In many ways, 2 Corinthians 9 mirrors our own situation. This passage has to do with giving money, where the Apostle Paul challenges Christians in one location to be generous in their giving to help Christians in another location. In the same way, as we seek to become one church in two locations, we're looking for Christians at Hopevale Church-Saginaw to give generously to help launch a new Hopevale Church in Bay City, so that we can be a blessing to both Christians and non-Christians in that community.

Our Christmas Outreach Offering has a rich history. Since 2010, the church has given $823,000 to the Christmas Outreach Offering, where all throughout the year we share this money to bless the lives of people outside the four walls of our church. We've funded countless local and global ministry projects, most of which are carried out directly by those who call Hopevale their church home.

This year, we want to carry on its purpose while widening its scope for these goals:

1. To continue local & global ministry projects
2. To make one-time purchases needed to launch Bay City
3. To cover the first year of ministry operations in Bay City

> our giving goal is $350,000
> 2x the annual amount of 2015 & 2016
> we’ve already saved an additional $200,000 to go toward Bay City
> this year's giving window is extended from October 15 to December 31

Involvement Card (time & talent)

Fill out the attend/serve cards for Bay City today in the service to let us know of your commitment to be part of the launch.

Giving Envelope (treasure)

Take the envelope home. Pray about your involvement to give willingly, cheerfully, and generously (above and beyond your regular giving) to invest
Hopevale-Bay City. Giving starts next week either through envelopes taken during our offering or online through a secure link under the GIVE tab of our website.

Next Sunday, Pastor Dan will start a new series, "Back to Basics," where we'll go back in time and explore the essentials of the Christian faith.
