Topic: Sunday Message Verse: Philippians 4:6–4:7
It Is Well: Week three of a seven week series about finding peace in an anxious world.
Responding to Anxiety
In the midst of anxiety, we normally react in one of two directions:
1. PARALYSIS (do nothing)
2. PANIC (do everything)
Unfortunately both of these options only further our anxiousness.
Thankfully there is a third option:
3. PRAYER (do something)
God has provided a way for us to experience His deep and abiding peace.
Philippians 4:6 NIV
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
A specific prayer is a serious prayer.
Anxiety vs. Gratitude
Cup Half-Empty or Cup Half-Full
"What if?" or "Already!"
Worry or Contentment
Get Anxious or Give Thanks
Philippians 4:7 NIV
7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
The practice of prayer leads us to the promise of peace.
Overcoming Four Common Prayer Obstacles
1. "I'm not in the right place."
2. "It's not the right situation."
3. "I don't know the right words."
4. "I don't have the right faith."
Pursuing Four Needed Prayer Invitations
1. Any place
2. Any situation
3. Any words
4. Any faith
This week: Specifically, sincerely, and seriously pray about your anxieties. Pray. Believe. Then watch God work.
