Living Like a Missionary Wherever God Sends You

Celebrate #HopevaleSENT!

SENT: Living Like a Missionary Wherever God Sends You

If you are a follower of Jesus, you ARE the Church and you ARE a missionary!

"Missionary" means: SENT ONE

John 20:21 NIV

21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”

As SENT missionaries, our purpose is to help bring God’s Kingdom to earth. When Jesus returned to His Father’s side, He handed the mantle to us and gave us His Spirit so we could keep bringing the Kingdom near, on earth as it is in heaven. There’s a real struggle between the kingdom of the world and the Kingdom of God.

John 8:12 NIV

12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Matthew 5:14-16 NIV

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Darkness is the absence of light. Jesus is the light and He calls us the light. Our job is to shine light into the darkness in the world.

Which means, that for us to live for God’s Kingdom purposes, we should be boldly going after the dark places in the world with the light of Jesus.

John 17:14-18 NIV

14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. 15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.

"In the world, not of the world..." (Really??)

This statement has caused believers to remove themselves from a position of influence.

A more accurate reflection of John 17 is this:

"Not OF the world, but SENT into it."

1 Corinthians 9:19-23 NIV

19 Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 20 To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21 To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. 22 To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. 23 I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.
